A whistle-blower has said that Facebook prioritize their own interest of making money on behalf of safety.
Frances Haugen, 37, who worked as a product manager on the civic integrity team at Facebook, was interviewed on Sunday by CBS.
She said the documents she leaked proved that Facebook repeatedly prioritised "growth over safety".

"There were conflicts of interest between what was good for the public and what was good for Facebook," she said.
"Facebook over and over again chose to optimise for its own interests, like making more money."

Facebook’s parent company Meta Platforms has reported a 21% drop in profits for the first quarter of this year, the company’s slowest revenue growth since going public a decade ago.
According to the First Quarter 2022 Results released on Wednesday, the company’s profit was $7.5 billion as opposed to $9.5 billion during the same period last year. Income from operations plummeted by 28%. Total revenue however rose 7% to $27.9 billion.
The results follow Meta’s bleak financial report for the Fourth Quarter and Full Year 2021 released in February, when the company also posted an 8% drop in profits and slowing user growth. The figures led to Meta’s stock plummeting more than 20% and its market value plunging more than $230 billion in the company’s biggest-ever one-day crash.
The losses in the two quarters are the company’s first back-to-back profit declines in over a decade, with a growth rate now below levels seen since it went public in 2012.

Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg has said his platform worked to limit the reach of an explosive story about President Joe Biden’s son, Hunter, after federal law enforcement told him to be “vigilant” about foreign misinformation.
Zuckerberg spoke at length about the controversy during an appearance on Joe Rogan’s podcast on Thursday, defending Facebook’s response to a New York Post report published ahead of the 2020 election which alleged a series of shady business dealings by Hunter Biden, citing documents obtained from one of his laptops.
While the CEO noted that Facebook “took a different path than Twitter” – which outright banned the story and even prevented users from sharing it in direct messages – he said his team ultimately decided to limit the spread of the article based on advice he had received from the FBI.

El ID de tweet dado no es válidoMark Zuckerberg’s shocking admission Thursday that Facebook squelched the Hunter Biden laptop story ahead of the 2020 election at the behest of the FBI adds to the growing pile of evidence that the bureau may have affected the race by muting an explosive bombshell.
Zuckerberg told podcast king Joe Rogan that the FBI, which by then had been in possession of the laptop for nearly a year, contacted top Facebook officials weeks before the election to warn them that a major dump of Russian disinformation was coming. When the New York Post broke the story, Twitter kicked the news site off its platform, and Facebook, Zuckerberg said, downranked the story for over a week to dampen its impact.
“We just kind of thought, hey, look, if the FBI, which I still view as a legitimate institution in this country, it’s like very professional law enforcement, they come to us and tell us that we need to be on guard about something, then I want to take that seriously,” Zuckerberg told Rogan.
The revelation came on the heels of Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WS) disclosing that multiple whistleblowers from inside the FBI told him they were barred by their superiors from investigating the laptop. Photos, videos, emails, and text messages on the abandoned laptop, which were also ignored by legacy news outlets, paint the president’s son as a drug-addled, venal degenerate and raise troubling questions about President Joe Biden’s own role in his son’s corrupt dealings.
Zuckerberg’s disclosure indicates the bureau was apparently active on at least two fronts in shutting down a story that could have changed the course of the election. Legacy news organizations including The New York Times, The Washington Post, and CNN initially dismissed the story as Russian disinformation — as did Biden — but have since acknowledged the laptop’s authenticity.
