Countries are setting expiration date of their Covid passes

People will have to take booster jabs to keep up the validity of their Covid passes, since more and more countries are setting expiration date on them.

Studies have shown that immunity begins to wane five months from having your second dose of a Covid-19 vaccine.

The reduction in immunity has led some countries to put an expiry date on the Covid cert.

 The valid period of the certs can be as little as nine months in some cases, meaning those vaccinated in early 2021 may now have an invalid cert.

Countries such as Israel and Vietnam have now set a fixed validity period on the certs, while Switzerland have said the cert is valid for 12 months after the date the second dose of the vaccine was administered.

Croatia and Austria decided to set an expiry date in July and August 2022.

Those who received Johnson Johnson vaccine vaccination certs will be deemed invalid 270 days after the 22nd day after they received the jab.

The EU Digital COVID Certificate will expire 12 months after the last jab.

The European Commission is set to propose either a recommendation or a delegated act to extend the use of COVID certificated to travel in the EU, a source close to the matter told EURACTIV.com. The source added that the certificate will expire twelve months after the last dose of a COVID-19 vaccine was administered.

The EU Digital COVID Certificate was supposed to be in place until 1 July 2022, but . . .

The  Regulation on the EU Digital COVID Certificate  applies for 12 months, as from 1 July 2021.
The Commission will present a report to the European Parliament and the Council on the application of the Regulation three months before the end of application of the Regulation. Together with this report, the Commission could propose to extend the date of application of the Regulation, taking into account the evolution of the epidemiological situation of the pandemic.
